The Santa Cruz Elementary District #28, also known as Little Red Schoolhouse, has approved a tax rate hike of 1.9% for the coming year, in order to keep its finances afloat amid rising operational costs.
Kathy Romero, principal and superintendent for the one-school district, said that being such a small and rural district, their options were limited when it came to increasing revenues. Little Red cannot introduce bond or override votes, as there are not enough voters in the district boundaries and no businesses. ×
