CINCINNATI (WXIX) - A December 2022 letter signed by Teresa Theetge contradicts a statement made Tuesday by the employment attorney she hired.

Amidst the turmoil surrounding Theetge’s status as Cincinnati police chief, attorney Steve Imm said the city “can only be terminated if there is cause.”

On Wednesday, FOX19 NOW obtained a copy of a document that says otherwise.

Dated Dec. 20, 2022, the document from the City of Cincinnati to the soon-to-be chief acknowledges that the position of police chief is an unclassified position.

It explains in writing that employees, in this case, Theetge, “accepting unclassified positions serve at the pleasure of the appointing authority and can be dismissed from employment without cause at any time.”
