BATON ROUGE, La. (WVUE) - SNAP benefits will stop at the end of October if the federal government shutdown has not been resolved, Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry warned Wednesday (Oct. 22).
“SNAP benefits are paid for by the federal government in Washington, and we simply administer the program here in Louisiana,” Landry said in a statement. “Without the funds, we cannot provide the benefits.”
Landry said SNAP cardholders will receive no new benefits on their cards starting Nov. 1 if the federal government remains shut down and unfunded. Any remaining benefits from previous months can still be used.
