DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) -- An investigation is underway in Troy after investigators say an AI image of a university dorm on fire was posted online.

Troy University Police say the photos, depicting a Trojan Village student dormitory on fire, began circulating on multiple social media platforms on Tuesday.

According to the TUPD, the Troy Fire Department responded to a fire alarm on campus on Tuesday. It was quickly discovered that a water leak caused the alarm, and no fire broke out.

"We assume those who posted these photos assumed students, faculty, and staff on campus would know they were posted in jest; however, they didn’t take into account the concern that parents outside of our area felt when seeing the photos," the TUPD said in a post on Facebook.
