PEMISCOT COUNTY, Mo. (KFVS) - Authorities in southeast Missouri are looking for answers after a body was found on Saturday morning.

According to Pemiscot County Sheriff Joe Bryant, the body of an unidentified black male was found in a field south of Hayti Heights on October 18.

Investigators from the sheriff’s office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Division of Drug and Crime Control, responded to the scene.

The sheriff said they could not determine a cause of death at that time.

He said an autopsy was done on Tuesday, October 21, but the final report is not currently complete.

It is believed the body was there for about one week.

Investigators are working to identify the body so they can notify the family.
