DENVER (KDVR) — A shelter-in-place order was sent to too many recipients, according to a social media post from the city of Englewood on Wednesday afternoon.

On Tuesday night, around 7 p.m., a shelter-in-place was issued in Englewood after police were active in a small area.

However, the alert was sent to a "wider audience than intended," the city said.

Once the staff were aware of the error, they amended the initial shelter-in-place notification.

The Englewood Police Department said it is reviewing its notification system to figure out what happened and take the necessary steps to prevent something similar from happening again.

"Public safety is our top priority," said the social media post.
