An officer-involved shooting in Niagara Falls has led to the death of a suspect who police say shot and killed a woman in Brampton and fled in a car with a one-year-old child.

Officers with Niagara Regional Police and Peel Regional Police Service had been actively searching for a suspect wanted in connection with the homicide that occurred Tuesday afternoon in Brampton.

An Amber Alert was subsequently issued for the missing child.

Investigators had reason to believe the suspect, identified as 38-year-old Anthony Deschepper, was in the Niagara region.

A shelter-in-place order was issued for an area of Crystal Beach in Fort Erie after evidence related to the police investigation was discovered.

The child was located with a family member in Niagara at about 5 p.m., said NRP spokesperson
