The family of 18-year-old Kimber Mills is preparing to lay her to rest following a final act of true kindness and generosity from the young woman.
Mills, who was shot Sunday during a bonfire party in a wooded area of Pinson commonly known as “The Pit," gave the gift of life Tuesday night through the donation of her organs. Her sister tells WVTM 13 that her heart was donated to a 7-year-old.
Ahead of the procedure, Mills was wheeled through the crowd-lined halls of UAB Hospital on her Honor Walk, a ceremony reserved for organ donors on their way to save lives.
Hundreds of Mills’ family and friends—and even people who didn’t know her that well, like Michael Holmes—flooded UAB hospital with pink, her favorite color, for the Honor Walk.
Holmes said he was there the night of the shooting
