Meals on Wheels WA has launched an urgent GoFundMe campaign to raise $10,000 to keep the volunteer-run charity operating.
The organisation says the funds are needed to cover basic administration, IT, membership fees and trademark protections.
Meals on Wheels West Australian president Cath Hewitt said meal deliveries would continue even if the WA peak body were to close but local services would lose vital advocacy and co-ordination support.
“Originally, it was a lot of local governments,” she said of the structure of support.
“Over a period of about 20 years, unfortunately most local governments have stepped out of the sector, and that’s been taken up with a lot of different organisations, like Chorus and the Harold Hawthorne Community Centre.
