Fresh off two consecutive Western Conference Finals appearances, the Minnesota Timberwolves are hungry to break through to the NBA's biggest stage, the NBA Finals. Their journey on that front starts against the rising Portland Trail Blazers in the season opener on Wednesday night. Unfortunately for Minnesota, it might be without its important piece.

According to the Timberwolves' injury report, three-time All-Star guard Anthony Edwards is questionable for the game against Portland with back spasms. Edwards' injury doesn't sound too serious from a long-term perspective, but it is at least enough for the Timberwolves to see how Edwards responds in his warmups and perhaps make him a game-time decision.

Chris Hine of The Minnesota Star Tribune reported that Edwards was present at the Timberwolves' first morning shootaround of the season, which is a good sign. Still, a casual shootaround is very different from a pre-game warmup, meaning Edwards' status is likely still up in the air:

Needless to say, Edwards' absence would be a huge loss for the Timberwolves, but at least it would probably only be for one game. We'll see how the guard fares on Wednesday night.
