AMES, Iowa —
The city of Ames says due to low overnight temperatures, staff will begin shutting down drinking fountains and restrooms throughout the park system starting next Monday.
"Our goal is to keep park restrooms open as long as possible because they greatly improve the visitor experience and extend stay times," Parks and Facilities Superintendent Joshua Thompson said in a news release. "However, without heating, the facilities and drinking fountains must be closed to prevent damage from freezing temperatures."
The city says staff will restore water usage once it warms up in the spring.
