House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries traded blame as the government shutdown continued with no end in sight. It is now the second longest federal government shutdown ever.

"Democrats keep making history, but they're doing it for all the wrong reasons," Johnson said.

As the government shutdown enters its fourth week, Trump welcomed Senate Republicans for lunch at the White House this week. It's not for urgent talks on how to end the shutdown, but a celebratory display of unity as they refuse to negotiate on Democratic demands for health care funds. Democrats want to extend health care subsidies that are expiring. Trump says he'll discuss health care, but only after the government reopens.

"President Trump is busy demolishing the White House to build a ballroom to celebrate him like a king and giving 40 billion dollars to his right wing dictator friend in Argentina, but can't find a dime to extend the Affordable Care Act tax credits for tens of millions of Americans," said Jeffries.

He also blamed Johnson for sending GOP House members home for an extended period of time. Jeffries called on Johnson to bring his GOP colleagues back to Washington "to enact a bipartisan spending agreement that actually meets the needs of the American people."
