BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- Some rain, lightning and thunderstorms made their way through Kern County early Wednesday morning giving 17 News' Chief Forecaster Kevin Charette a front row seat to nature's startling power.
Charette was outside the KGET studios in downtown Bakersfield giving his forecast on 17 News at Sunrise for Wednesday when the lightning struck. Charette was using his cellphone and a tablet to provide the forecast for viewers at home who did not see the lightning on the broadcast.
Charette explained weather graphics were on the screen at the time when the lightning struck but he was recording himself using his phone which captured the lightning over his shoulder. Charette knew it was time go and head back inside to the KGET studio.
