The San Francisco 49ers promoted edge rusher Robert Beal Jr to the active roster. To make room for him, Trevis Gipson was released. Gipson played 17 defensive snaps against the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7. He’s played 41 snaps in the past three weeks, while Beal has not played since Week 4 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Gipson will likely rejoin the practice squad if he clears waivers.

With a roster spot now open on the practice squad, linebacker Stone Blanton was signed. Blanton joined the 49ers as an undrafted free agent and spent training camp with the team before he was waived on August 26.
