LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - Metro Government agreed to a $1 million settlement in a lawsuit filed by participants in the Breonna Taylor protests.
The suit filed in 2020 accused LMPD of “forcibly” silencing protesters, “often using military type weapons, and tactics that resemble those used by authoritarian regimes.”
Eight plaintiffs complained of unnecessary use of force and injuries.
“I just couldn’t see. I was yelling, it was burning,” plaintiff Patrick Moore said, describing when he was shot in the eye with a police pepper ball. “I wasn’t sure if my eye was completely exploded or just in pain.”
Five years and four surgeries later, much of the vision in Moore’s left eye is gone.
