DESOTO COUNTY, Tenn. — A group called DeSoto County Parents for Accountability encouraged parents to keep their children home from school in protest Wednesday.

The call to action came after a school board member wrote a letter of support for Lindsey Whiteside, a former coach and minister who pleaded guilty last week to sexual battery of a child and was sentenced to three years of house arrest.

It's hard to say how much of an impact the "sick out" really had on DeSoto County Schools. At several Desoto County Schools, parking lots appeared to be full and nothing looked out of place Wednesday.

We reached out to the district for attendance and absentee numbers but did not receive a response.
