SACRAMENTO Calif. (KPTV) - A Portland family has spent days in a California hospital after their car was rear-ended while they were changing a tire on the side of an interstate.

Eight-year-old Aiden Perez Muñoz was seriously injured and had to be airlifted to UC Davis Medical Center. The crash happened early Sunday morning during what had been a family weekend trip.

Lupita Muñoz Perez had taken her son to a work conference in California. On the drive home, they got a flat tire and pulled over to change it.

“It was like half a second, I turned and heard this big loud bang and the cars went flying and everyone was screaming,” Muñoz Perez said.

Her car was pushed 30 feet down the road with Aiden still inside.
