St. Catharines MPP Jennie Stevens continued to press the government to use Ontario steel on the Garden City Skyway twinning project during question period at Queen’s Park on Wednesday.

Stevens and fellow Niagara NDP MPPs Jeff Burch (Niagara Centre) and Wayne Gates (Niagara Falls), along with NDP Leader Marit Stiles, called on the Progressive Conservative government in August to commit to using local steel when building the twin 2.2-kilometre-long span over the Welland Canal between St. Catharines and Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The NDP raised the issue of local materials for construction projects after reports that a U.S. firm was awarded a $140-million facade contract over Ontario bidders for a new hospital in Mississauga.
