A booze-fuelled husband lunged at his wife with a carving knife in their garden. Paul Phillips has been jailed for 14 months after the terrifying incident in Middlesbrough .
The 38-year-old's wife had left their home on the evening of August 11 after an argument with the defendant, who had been drinking heavily. She returned at 6.30am the next morning and was sat outside in the garden.
Imogen Eastham-Brown, prosecuting, said: "He came outside and brought her a cup of tea. He asked her to come back in but she refused because he was still intoxicated."
He entered the home before appearing again wielding a carving knife. "He waved this in her face and lunged towards her and went to stab her in the leg," said Ms Eastham-Brown.
