The Met office has issued a weather alert for heavy rain for Teesside as Storm Benjamin hits the region. The yellow weather warning has been placed on Middlesbrough , Stockton , Redcar and Cleveland, Hartlepool and Darlington from midnight on Thursday, October 23, until 6pm that day.

Forecasters say the heavy rain could result in spray and flooding on roads leading to difficult driving conditions and increased chance of accidents, making journey times longer. It adds that people should plan journeys as public transport may be affected in places with some journey times taking longer, as well as flooding of some homes and businesses likely.
