CRANSTON, R.I (WPRI) — Joey Lin wishes her father was able to say goodbye in his final moments at Rhode Island Hospital earlier this month.

"I thought — he held my hand when I came into this world ... [so] I'm going to hold his hand when he goes," Lin said. "I had to watch him fight for his life so hard."

Lin's father, 53-year-old Xu Shao Lin, died on Oct. 7 — just one month after he was critically injured in a fiery crash on I-95 North in Attleboro.

Xu Shao also passed away four days shy of his 54th birthday.

Court documents reveal Xu Shao was driving down I-95 on Sept. 7 when he was hit by another vehicle that was switching lanes at a high rate of speed.

Attleboro firefighters had to remove Xu Shao from his mangled vehicle, according to the court documents.
