OKLAHOMA CITY (KFOR) – If the government shutdown continues, hundreds of thousands of Oklahomans will lose their SNAP benefits.
They're expected to be suspended starting November 1, and many people are worried about it, including a local non-profit called ReMerge.
ReMerge is a pre-trial diversion program that serves high-risk, high-needs mothers facing felony offenses.
"Sometimes people make mistakes and they don't define you, and if you do the work, you can turn your life around," said Jenika Redelk, mother at ReMerge.
Redelk is one of the mothers who is working toward a fresh start.
"By the time they complete our program, their felony charges are dismissed, they're reunited with their children, they've got stable employment and housing," said Erin Engelke, CEO, ReMerge.
