PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – Crews have been hard at work tearing down the former Nordstrom at the Lloyd Center to make way for a new concert venue.

Demolition at that site has been ongoing since June, but Wednesday marks the start of construction to the unnamed venue expected to seat up to 42,000 people and host at least 125 shows in its first year.

Local promoter Monqui Presents is teaming up with entertainment developer "AEG Presents" to bring the $70 million project to life.

Don Strasburg with AEG said it’s taken more than 10 years to get here.

"The venue this community has deserved for so long is about to be real,” he said. “I can't wait for all of us to experience this together."
