STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Allan Kivlehan School, PS 6, held a library unveiling, naming and ribbon-cutting ceremony Wednesday to honor Lisa Marie Vecchiarelli, a beloved first grade teacher who died unexpectedly earlier this year.

Vecchiarelli taught at the Tottenville school since its opening more than two decades ago until the time of her death on Jan. 11.

A dedicated New York City public school teacher for more than 30 years, Vecchiarelli was described by PS 6 PTA President Binay Scanni as “the most amazing human being who brought light everywhere she went.”

The school community is still deeply mourning her loss, and event organizers said her passion for teaching and vibrant personality made it an easy decision to honor her legacy.
