MADISON (WKOW) -- John Patterson was sworn in as the new Madison police chief Wednesday, ushering in a new era for the department.
Since January, Chief Patterson has served as interim chief, filling the role of former Chief Shon Barnes. Now that he has officially taken the oath, Chief Patterson said he is committed to prioritizing people, culture, and service.
He spent Wednesday's ceremony thanking a number of family members, leaders, friends, and mentors in the community for being the reason he is where he is today.
Chief Patterson acknowledged that there will be challenges ahead but said he has a number of goals for himself and his department.
