VERMONT (ABC22/FOX44) - Vermont and New Hampshire authorities are encouraging hunters to "make lifelong memories in the woods this weekend."

Youth Deer Weekend is this coming Saturday and Sunday in both Vermont and New Hampshire. In each state, an unarmed, licensed hunter 18 years or older can take a child 15 years or younger out to hunt just one deer of either sex.

Licensed hunters are allowed to accompany up to two youth hunters.

This is in advance of each state's regular deer season - hunting for archers is already open.

In Vermont, youth hunters must have completed a hunter education course to participate - this is not required in New Hampshire. In both states, deer must be tagged, with free tags available online.
