(WVNY/WFFF) - Services for hundreds of kids at head start programs across the country, are up in the air because of the federal government shutdown.

There are head start programs in all 50 states. With the goal of preparing under-privileged children and their families for kindergarten.

In the state of Vermont, more than 240 kids and 65 staff are at risk of losing funding if this continues into next month. The chair of the Vermont Head Start Association says many families rely on the programs for essentials such as day care and hot meals.
