Transport Minister Catherine King has stopped short of guaranteeing that Regional Express (Rex) will continue operating across remote and regional Australia after its sale to US company Air T.

The US aviation holding company, Air T, acquired the embattled regional airline , subject to regulatory and creditor approvals, after its debts blew out to $500 million.

Ms King told Sky News on Thursday that the government had undertaken “a lot of due diligence” on the prospective buyer and was confident in its aviation credentials.

Ms King indicated that she expected the airline services to continue to all of the regions but did not make any formal guarantee.

“I’m assured by the assurances given yesterday by Air T and its release that they’re looking forward to being in the Australian market.
