A forgettable five-game road trip for the Minnesota Wild came to a merciful end on Wednesday in Newark. The Wild were bottled up for much of the night in a 4-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils at the Prudential Center, marking their fourth defeat in five games over the course of this early-season trip.

The Devils (6-1-0) scored a goal in all three periods to take a 3-0 lead, and all the Wild (3-4-1) could muster in the final period was Matt Boldy's fifth goal of the season. A late empty-net goal from the Devils sealed the result. It's the sixth consecutive win for a New Jersey team that has scored at least three goals in all seven of its games to begin this season.
