HERMON, Maine — For generations, the Hermon Mountain Ski Area has been a destination for those in and around Bangor looking for some winter fun, but this will be its last season.
"There's no real magic to it. It's just something you do every year," owner Bill Whitcomb said.
Whitcomb is saying goodbye to the family-owned business after over four decades. "It's going to be the hardest thing about getting done," Whitcomb said.
The property is on the market for just over $2 million and has been on sale since 2022. "It's time," Whitcomb said. "It's time to move on to retirement."
Whitcomb is hoping that once it's sold, it will stay a ski area, and others in the community hope so, too.
"I grew up on Hermon Mountain," Hermon Fire Chief Cody Sullivan said.
