“Stranger Things” co-creators Matt and Ross Duffer have confirmed that a fan-favorite character won’t be part of the show’s final season.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for season 4 of “Stranger Things.”

Eddie Munson (Joseph Quinn) died heroically during the season 4 finale, but that didn’t stop fans from speculating that he might make a season 5 cameo in a flashback or a dream sequence.

Quinn has even been coy about whether he might reprise his role as Eddie. When asked about fans who have a feeling they’ll see Eddie again, Quinn told Entertainment Tonight , “I might have that feeling too. Or maybe I don’t. I don’t know! Who knows?”

Unfortunately for Eddie stans, Matt Duffer shut down any hope of him returning during an interview with Empire published on Monday, Oct. 20.
