LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - Adam Van Cleave was an all-state football player at Columbus Lakeview High School. He was a two-year captain who broke multiple school records. Van Cleave had options to play football in college. Instead, he chose to give up the sport and attend the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
During his freshman year, Van Cleave played intramural football on the UNL campus. That wasn’t enough for the 2021 NSAA state champion.
Van Cleave decided to give college football a try and transferred to Concordia, where he was welcomed by head coach Patrick Daberkow.
“(I) really just showed up on campus one day and said ‘I want to transfer,’” Van Cleave said. He said he didn’t give much thought to playing at the NAIA level while in high school.
