(NewsNation) — A Chinese woman has been charged in the theft of 1.5 million euros ($1.7 million) in gold from the Museum of Natural History in Paris, a report said.
The heist took place Sept. 16 by "an extremely professional team," according to the museum's director at the time. At the time of the incident, the thieves were aware the museum's alarm and surveillance systems had been disabled by a cyberattack, according to French media outlets.
"The thieves, clearly very experienced and well-informed, exploited a security flaw that had not been identified during the last audit conducted in 2024," a Museum of Natural History in Paris spokesperson told French newspaper Le Figaro.
Investigators revealed the woman had left France the day of the break-in and was preparing to return to China.
