ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - A deer showed up ready for class Wednesday morning at Ladue Middle School, joining several students outside the building and turning what started as a typical day into an unusual situation.

Principal Dr. Angela Thompson, who was inside at the time, sprung into action to protect students.

“Just take care of the kids. There are too many kids around for something like this,” Thompson said.

Thompson safely directed students away from the deer, including seventh-grader Isabelle Hu.

“When I saw my principal, I realized that I need to get into the building quick,” Hu said.

Students expressed gratitude for Thompson’s quick response.

“Thank you for stepping in. It’s like you didn’t have to, but you did anyways,” said Dre’ah Bryant, an eighth-grader.
