TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - East Texas veterans returned home Wednesday evening from the Brookshire Grocery Company Heroes Flight to an emotional homecoming at Tyler Pounds Regional Airport, where family members and friends gathered to welcome them back from their trip to Washington D.C.
The homecoming scene featured numerous embraces and tears as veterans reunited with their families.
Joyce Peterson welcomed home her husband of 66 years.
“Oh, it’s great to have him home. I’ve missed him terribly,” Joyce Peterson said.
When asked what it felt like to be home, Curtis Peterson responded by kissing his wife and saying, “does that tell you?”
For some veterans, the fanfare represented a homecoming they never received after military service.
