SMITH COUNTY (KLTV) - An early morning semi-truck fire shut down westbound lanes of Interstate 20 near Joy-Wright Mountain Road (mile marker 578) Thursday.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the call came in shortly after 5 a.m. Troopers say an 18-wheeler was fully engulfed in flames when emergency crews arrived on scene.

All westbound lanes are currently closed, and DPS troopers are assisting with traffic control in the area.

Drivers are urged to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until further notice. No word yet on any injuries or how long the closure is expected to last.
