Independent presidential candidate Catherine Connolly described Clare Daly as a “beacon of hope”, despite the former MEP’s strong opposition to sanctions against Russia.

Launching Ms Daly’s campaign for last year’s European elections, Ms Connolly said she shared her vision and added: “I wish there were more like her.”
