CHELAN, Wash. – The Swakane Unit of the Chelan Wildlife Area, located north of Wenatchee, reopened Wednesday, October 22, after being closed due to the Lower Sugarloaf wildfire.

The reopening includes the shooting range on the wildlife area, offering residents and visitors the chance to return to their outdoor activities, Washington Department of Wildlife (WDW) said in a release .

However, some U.S. Forest Service - Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest roads and trails remain closed.

The Lower Sugarloaf Fire, sparked by lightning, blackened 42,980 acres before firefighters reached containment.
