BILLINGS, Mont. – Seven key intersections in downtown Billings have been improved with a new feature called a Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI).
This feature gives people walking a three-second head start to step into the crosswalk before drivers receive the green light, the city announced.
The city said the LPI is a cost-effective update that uses existing equipment to boost pedestrian visibility and reduce close calls between drivers and people crossing the street.
It also encourages drivers to yield and provides extra crossing time for those who need it most.
The new LPI signals have been installed at the following locations:
- 2nd Ave N at N Broadway, N 29th St, and N 30th St
- 3rd Ave N at N Broadway, N 29th St, and N 30th St
- 6th Ave N at N 31st St
