A seven-year-old boy, identified as Tawina James, has drowned in the Thuchira River in Mulanje after going swimming with friends.
Mulanje Police spokesperson Innocent Moses said the incident occurred when the boy, from Masepula Village under Traditional Authority Tombodiya, ventured into a deep section of the river and was unable to get out.
“The body was found floating the following day,” Moses confirmed.
A postmortem examination conducted at Mulanje District Hospital established that the cause of death was suffocation secondary to drowning.
