North Carolina lawmakers adopted a controversial new congressional map, which aims to gain another Republican seat.

The state's former congressional map had already received criticism for gerrymandering, with Republican control of 10 out of the 14 congressional seats. The new map provides the party with a further seat.

Political news website Politico noted that the changes to the map, which were passed by the North Carolina House on Wednesday, Oct. 22, will primarily affect Democrat U.S. Rep. Don Davis , who represents the 1st Congressional District in North Carolina. President Donald Trump narrowly carried Davis's district in 2024 - the new district would have voted for Trump by around 11 percentage points.
