COLUMBIA, S.C. — The South Carolina Department of Social Services (SCDSS) is warning SNAP recipients that there may be no benefits paid out in November due to the ongoing government shutdown.

The agency issued a statement Wednesday saying that the U.S. Department of Agriculture has instructed SCDSS to hold November 2025 SNAP issuance files until further notice. State agencies across the nation are issuing similar notices to people about the possible interruption.

Ashley Page Bookhart, Director of Programs and Rural Outreach for FoodShare South Carolina, says the situation could have serious consequences.

“We know if there’s not a solution before November, there will be repercussions,” said Bookhart.
