NEW YORK (PIX11) – The Broadway League and its musicians' union have reached a tentative agreement, avoiding a strike that would’ve begun on Thursday.

Several labor unions and even U.S. senators stood with Broadway musicians as Local 802 stood firm on sticking points, including fair wages, health care benefits and job security. The union pledged to do “whatever it takes” to see those demands met.

The strike would’ve closed the curtains on nearly two dozen shows.

This Broadway season has been a blockbuster, with nearly 15 million attendees and almost $2 billion in box office grosses. Local 802 said that since Sept. 1, thousands of Broadway musicians had been working without a contract.
