The Pacific Northwest is in the track of an atmospheric river set to bring periods of moderate-to-heavy rain and gusty winds beginning Friday and lasting through the weekend.

The National Weather Service says the first in a series of frontal systems is weak and moving onshore Thursday. Portland could see a shower or two, but the highest chances of rain are along the coast and higher terrain north of U.S. 26. Rain totals from this first system will stay lower than 0.25 inches.

Portland will see mostly cloudy (but dry) skies Thursday and a high of about 67 degrees.

The second system is a “robust cold front,” according to the weather service and will arrive from the Gulf of Alaska on Friday.
