An autistic man who was ditched by Waitrose after his mum requested he was given a wage has been offered a paid job by Asda. ‌

Tom Boyd, 27, carried out work experience and volunteered for more than 600 hours at the Cheadle Hulme store, in Greater Manchester, for over four years. His mum Frances says problems arose when she asked the supermarket in July if Tom could have a few hours of paid work as recognition for "the time, effort and heart" he had given since 2021. ‌

It's understood that Waitrose head office then told the mum Tom's work experience placement had to end. Frances has now revealed, however, that Tom has been offered paid work at Asda . ‌
