CHICAGO — Chicago-area companies have made millions in lucrative contracts supporting Operation Midway Blitz’s immigration enforcement actions in the area.

Block Club Chicago examined a federal database of contracts awarded to businesses and found nearly a dozen area companies have seen an increase in awarded contracts in recent months as the U.S. Department of Homeland Security ramped up immigration operations in and around Chicago. The companies were awarded contracts to relocate federal agents and supply weapons, tactical technology and fencing.

Chicago-based real estate company Reliance Relocation Services was awarded $7.3 million to relocate U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement employees over a four-month period. Those contracts ended the same day the Department of Homeland Secu
