The first witness to take the stand was Lt. Eric Weston with Illinois State Police Criminal Investigations, investigating homicides, officer-involved-shootings and crimes against children.

The morning of the shooting, Weston and his team arrived at the Springfield home, finding the home taped off, with few officers on scene.

Weston told prosecutors and the jury they collected blood and urine from Grayson, along with his body camera, uniform and the weapon used.

Weston said body camera footage of Grayson and the other deputy were viewed, and he initially believed there wsa an altercation that led to use of force.
