Bhatkal: An alert police team led by Sub-Inspector Naveen Naik from Bhatkal Town Police Station raided an illegal gambling spot near the Jali Telageri cricket ground on Saturday evening, arresting one person while several others managed to flee the scene.
According to the police, the operation was launched after officers noticed candlelight flickering near the ground around midnight. When the team approached the spot, they found a group of men playing Andar-Bahar, a form of gambling involving playing cards and cash.
The suspects attempted to escape as the police closed in. While seven accused, including Madeva Gonda of Telageri and Shankar Naik of Hanuman Nagar, fled, Narayan Gonda, a fisherman from Shedkuli, was caught on the spot. His explanation that it was “just a festive game” fail
