VACAVILLE, Calif. —

Vacaville residents gathered at a community meeting Wednesday night to discuss the future of battery energy storage systems in their city.

The meeting follows concerns raised after one of California's largest facilities caught fire earlier this year .

These facilities store energy for use during peak demand, and the meeting aimed to outline how they would be regulated locally.

Currently, a countywide moratorium is in place to prevent the construction of these facilities, but some energy companies are bypassing this by seeking approval through the state.

During the meeting, dozens of residents voiced their opposition to the potential building of a battery energy storage facility in Vacaville.
