Long-simmering sports gambling fears erupted into scandal Thursday morning as FBI agents arrested at least two high-profile NBA figures, including the head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers, Chauncey Billups, a Hall of Famer who played 17 seasons in the league.

Billups was arrested in Portland, Oregon, just hours after his Trail Blazers team lost its season-opening game Wednesday night, according to people familiar with the arrests, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the situation. Agents also arrested Miami Heat player Terry Rozier, a former first-round draft pick, in Orlando.
